“Welfare” doesn’t describe what the department is, or what it does.  Time for a change.  Join us: demand a true Department of Human Services.

Pennsylvania is the only state in the country that still uses “Welfare” in the name for its agency serving citizens in need of services.  Not to mention that 93% of the Department’s resources go towards serving seniors, people with disabilities, victims of abuse, and people recovering from addiction – NOT ‘welfare.’  We think it’s time the Department of Public Welfare became the Department of Human Services.  Don’t you?
